Richard Bornmuller

During the “Guerra del Pacífico” (War of the Pacific, 18791884), also call “Guerra del Salitre” (Saltpeter War) that faced Chile against Bolivia and Peru, was the regulation rifle in the Peruvian Army.

Peru had very little long armament, and send to colonel Castañón to Germany to buy guns for its army.

There, in Suhl it contracted with the Bonnmüller manufacturer the design of new rifle known like “Modelo Peruano (Peruvian Model).

Bornmüller subcontracts with the gunmaker Robert Schmidt, who manufacturer only 6.198 units, whose tube would be in dimensions and equal caliber to the Chassepot.
