Cal. 7.65mm (.32ACP)

"Metropolitan Police" Semi Automatic Pistol, manufactured in 1911.  This model was first offered in 1906, and was still being sold in 1940.  It was first adopted by the Metropolitan Police in 1911, after having been in use with them for the previous five years.  Legend has it that the famous Siege of Sidney Street inspired the police to discard their revolvers and take to automatics, although revolvers continued in police service until the present day. Barrel length is 31/2 inches; the magazine holds eight rounds.  Left hand side of the slide is marked "WEBLEY 7 SCOTT LTD/LONDON & BIRMINGHAM/7.65M/M&32AUTOMATIC PISTOL/1911. Left hand side of the slide is also marked with crown over "M.P."
