Swiss M.1842 Percussion Musket (Canton Genf)

Caliber: 18 mm.

Swiss Canton Genf militia smoothbore musket M.1842. The smoothbore muskets of this pattern are somewhat difficult to find in original condition, as most of them were converted to rifled muskets M.1842/59, and consequently to Milbank Amsler breech loaders M.1842/59//67. Canton Genf militia property markings are stamped on the back of the barrel. Several other Swiss markings and proofs are stamped on various metal parts and on the stock. The lock plate displays Belgian gun maker markings, "Crown over B" (in the oval). Belgian gun makers manufactured percussion muskets for various Swiss cantons.
