Russian Flintlock Cavalry Pistol for Lower Ranks, Model 1839
We have the opportunity to present another Russian-made flintlock pistol used in the Russian army, and to present several photographs of this weapon. This time, it is the Russian Flintlock Cavalry Pistol for Lower Ranks, Model 1839. The website HistoryPistols.ru previously presented the Russian flintlock pistol Model 1809 and its variants. The Model 1839 pistol is a modernized version of this weapon.
The pistol consists of a stock, barrel, lock plate, trigger mechanism, and brass fittings. Its overall length is 398 mm and its weight is 1,240 grams. The Russian flintlock cavalry pistol of the lower ranks, Model 1839, has a shorter forend compared to the 1809 pistol. The sights consist of a brass front sight mounted in the upper part of the barrel and a slotted rear sight located in the upper part of the breech screw.
A flintlock is mounted on the right side of the stock. The powder tray of the lock is slightly inclined relative to the barrel axis.
The priming hole is located approximately at the level of the upper edge of the powder tray.
The flintlock locking plate is slightly recessed into the surface of the stock.
The pistol barrel is cylindrical. Its outer diameter gradually decreases from the breech to the muzzle. At the breech, the barrel is slightly domed and has an octagonal cross-section with rounded edges. The barrel is 245 mm long and its caliber is 18.5 mm.
A priming hole is drilled on the right side of the barrel. The breech screw is screwed into the breech part of the barrel. It is pierced with holes for the transverse bolt fixing screw and the screw connecting its end to the trigger. A semi-circular rear sight is fitted in its upper part.
